What I don’t buy anymore that saves me hundreds a month and yearly.
Recent studies show inflation is not stopping any time soon and may last another 2-3 years at least. I’m sure you have felt the change in your wallet lately. Your money doesn’t go as far as it did 3 years ago before you know what happened…
Even without inflation, the price of goods and services is not going to drop drastically after we make it through this storm.
I used to spend money on so many things I really didn’t need and I said ok, it’s time I stop the madness and tighten up. My goal was to find ways to save and use that savings to pay off debt to achieve financial freedom, and my career goals.
I have stopped spending money on these 12 things, which has allowed me to save $100’s a month! Even if I’m still purchasing some things, I’m saving because there are boundaries in place.
Here is the list of things I don’t buy anymore to save money!
A side note; I am not a minimalist! I purchase HIGH-QUALITY items so they last.
Mouthwash
Yes, you hear me. I don’t buy mouthwash anymore. It’s simple, you already brush your teeth. If you just like the minty feeling and the added benefits of your mouthwash here is a hack.
I purchase my name-brand teeth paste or non-name brand (my favorite) from the dollar store. Two or three different teeth paste with all those extra benefits for $1 like; whitening, cavity protection, and gum health. I mix them together in a reusable tube I purchase off Amazon. Done.
Trendy Clothing
I don’t purchase trendy clothing. I’ve worked on a capsule wardrobe that only includes 40 pieces per season and they are all high-quality pieces that are interchangeable with each other.
So, every piece in my closet can match or go with any pieces I own. This cuts down on not having anything to wear or impulse buying things just because they look cute. Timeless looks will ALWAYS be trendy.
Shaving Cream
Use oil, one of your conditioners, or laser.
Bottled Water
Get a water filter system. It will save you so much money! You can get one for as little as $30 at Home Depot. If you buy a $5 case of water every 2 weeks for a year you are spending $120 on bottled water. Girl…
The Newest Electric Version
If my iPhone works I’m going to use it. If a company offers a free upgrade ok but nothing is really free. So, I pay for my phones in cash upfront and until it breaks I use it. This saves you hundreds or thousands a year if your skipping 3,4,5 years without getting a new phone.
Fragrances
You can purchase 2 or 3 at a time, do not [purchase anymore until you run out. You can purchase a summer scent and one or two winter scents and your set. Having a signature scent makes you more rememberable anyway, so find your scent and your golden.
Designer Bags
This is a hard one so you need a good game plan. My rule is only 1 or 2 new bags a year and never over $400! I have no shame shopping for gently used bags or sale items! Work smarter, not harder, ok!
Costume Jewelry
Stop buying fake jewelry. Only purchase solid gold or gold-plated jewelry. Any precise stone actually is fine, but especially gold. Gold never depreciates in value. Gold jewelry can be a part of your emergency fund. You can sell gold very very easily for cash.
You can not resell fake jewelry, it is a huge waste of money. So, when you purchase jewelry, ONLY buy jewelry made of precise metals. And since precise stone jewelry is expensive you will not be purchasing it every day like you would with fake jewelry therefore saving money.
Plastic Plates Or Cups
I no longer buy one-time-use plastic, paper, or styrofoam anymore. I only use home dishware now. Saves around $10 – $15 every 2 weeks.
Cable
I do not have cable. This could be an added expense anywhere from $40 to $100+ a month. I didn’t grow up on cable or tv in general so it is an easier thing for me to do.
If you have cable; streaming services that you probably have already have like Netflix, Amazon movies, and so on are just as good if not better options. Cut the cable and get one streaming service.
Wallets
No need to purchase a new wallet every time you get a new bag. It is a hassle having to make sure your new wallet has space for everything anyway.
Find a wallet you love and keep that till it wears out honestly! I’ve used a wallet for over 10 years before! Keep your money in your wallet, not on your wallet.
High End Make Up
I do not buy designer makeup. The moderately priced makeup works just as great. I would focus more on skincare products because if you have great skin any makeup brand will look flawless on you.
What are some things you use to buy that are a huge waste of money now? Hope this list helps you save some of that hard-earned money girly!
