Gallery walls are beautiful to see, BUT the right gallery wall is something to admire.
I just got to thinking…
Twenty-something-year-olds deserve stunning statement pieces, too.
Just because you’re just now getting into your career, or just trying to be responsible with your money. You know, boring stuff. You should be able to wow your friends at your annual Saturday game night, too. So, let’s set the tone.
First things first, you want to find your art style. I have learned that the best-looking gallery walls are focused on images of family, your relationship, abstract art, variations of nature, watercolors, graphics, or pictures mixed with quotes.
Now that you have your look, here is my little secret for getting prints and images at a low price. Twelve options, and the first option is…
Highlight Covers
Yes, girl! You heard me. Instagram highlight covers!
They look cutest when blown up. You can get anything from watercolors, bright colors, lovely nude colors, abstract art, full photos, and the list goes on.
Take your pick. You can find a few of my favorites on Etsy, Creative Market, Instagram, and Google Images.
Now, there are some items you have to purchase; the trick is to buy the small or 5×5 size and have them blown up at your local print shop. I know FedEx also offers this service to an extent, as there is so fair you can be blown out without it being distorted.
Esty Creators
If you didn’t know, many artists use platforms like Etsy to showcase and sell their work. And it is no secret that the quality is there.
It’s like going to an art show, but without bidding wars. The price is the price, and the work is impressive. I use PMWatercolors a lot for switching up my wall when I want full-color black girl art, which is often.
Stock Wedsites
A stock website is also an excellent option. Go to their website and type any topic in their search bar, and I promise they will have images.
They also offer styles like editorial photos, illustration & vector files, depending on whether you want to edit your photos. You will never run out of options. These websites usually offer a free trial download, such as Shutterstock (which may have changed over the years).
Local Artist
I find local artists through networking, word of mouth, social media, LinkedIn & pop-up showcases. I haven’t been able to do this often, but I am going to do more local shopping for art this year, because the artists in my area are really talented and I love to shop local.
You can find local art in your city by visiting exhibits. Some are permanent, and some are seasonal. If this is your first time looking for local art exhibits, keep an eye out for your city or town’s local newspaper. Yes! They still make newspapers, and the local papers and flyers always feature things like this.
Instagram Illustrations
You can find some really gorgeous illustrations on Instagram now because it’s almost like their personal portfolio. It’s as simple as searching for an artist on Instagram.
You go page by page to find your style of artist. More than likely, that artist will have a link to their shop. Have fun.
Don’t sleep on Google. You can find some really cool pieces; I mean, it’s Google.
Type in your style of art or what you’re looking for, and you will find something that complements your aesthetic.
Your Own Photos
The easiest type of photo to find is one of you. So, take your phone and get to capturing moments.
Now is the time for frames.
I have a contemporary, clean, and simple aesthetic, so here are a few of my favorite frames and just some excellent finds.
